We are happy to announce that our Keynote Speaker will be Chiara Antico

Chiara Antico
Italian viola player, Chiara Antico is a DMA (Doctor in Musical Arts) candidate at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Universidade NOVA in Lisbon, writing about the women’s orchestra of Auschwitz-Birkenau and its legacy in today’s music research. In her work the artistic expression embodies and intertwines Music, History and Memory Studies.
As a musician, she was member of national youth orchestras performing in France, Russia and Italy, and a fellowship of the “F. Fenaroli” ensemble allowed her to play at Carnegie Hall (NY) and in Bangkok (Thailand). In 2012 she was the second viola in the official orchestra of the European Capital of Culture (Guimarães, Portugal), and after public auditions she collaborated with the Casa da Música Symphonic Orchestra (Oporto), Orquestra Metropolitana and Orquestra Gulbenkian (Lisbon).
She holds a summa cum laude Master in Music Performance, having however finished her Master in Education. Particularly concerned with the meaning of music for Holocaust remembrance, she attended teacher training courses developed by the UCL Center for Holocaust Education (UK), Yad Vashem (Israel), the National Institute of Resistance and Contemporary History and the University of Florence (Italy), having also been selected for the Auschwitz-Birkenau Summer Academy (Poland) and the Bergen-Belsen Summer School (Germany).
She presented papers in international conferences about musical activity in concentration camps and sound memory. She continues her activity as a musician-researcher in chamber music groups, focusing on composers and repertoire related to the history of the Holocaust and its consequences: her analysis focuses on non-verbal communication and collective memory.
